​An uplifting musical adventure of friendship and discovery, created for Albany 2026.
The adventure of Tipu the fox and Marri the echidna.
In the foxes’ city of Hillside, songs are trapped, stored and consumed as energy. Tipu, the fox was raised as a Song Catcher. His friend Marri, the echidna, still holds a true, living song. When Tipu betrays Marri by catching his song, he triggers a catastrophic release of songs that have been trapped and stored, igniting fire and blame.
Fleeing into the Albany bush, Tipu and Marri reunite on an adventure to the mythical Listening Tree, a place of memory and renewal where they discover the power of listening.
With original music by Jarred Wall, West Australian Music 2025 Vocalist of the Year, and featuring Gina Williams-Ghouse, Jarrad Inman and Rachelle Durkin, The Song Catchers blends music, live performance and animation into a powerful and uplifting theatrical experience. Conducted by Pia Harris and directed by Matt Reuben James Ward.

Aliwah Bardinar! is hitting the road in 2026! First stop: the Indian Ocean Islands, followed by touring regional Western Australia with CircuitWest’s Shows on the Go Tour.​

Last weekend we spent an exciting day at Crank Recording capturing the instrumental tracks for the production. Joined by an incredible team of musicians — Daniel Susnjar, Lydia Lai & Daniel Dreiberg — alongside Breaksea Music Director Pia Harris and creator Gina Williams-Ghouse, it was a fantastic session and an important step in preparing the show for tour.

The recording will include the late Guy Ghouse's guitar tracks from our Albany season. We honour the legacy of Guy Ghouse and the remarkable artistic partnership he shared with Gina Williams-Ghouse. Breaksea and CircuitWest are proud to bring Aliwah Bardinar! to audiences across the state.

BREAKSEA YOUTH ENSEMBLE
In February, we kicked off our Breaksea Youth Ensemble sessions for 2026. With a vocal and new dance stream - it’s been a fantastic start to the year.
​
We’re thrilled to welcome 21 participants aged 9–18, who are exploring singing, dance and performance in weekly after-school sessions. The program is led by local directors Milu Green, Tammy London, Jessica Ruggiera, Rachael Colmer & Eddy Jay—alongside Breaksea’s Director of Music Pia Harris.

Across the year, participants will collaborate creatively and develop their performance skills while building confidence and connection with one another. Highlights include appearing in a music video for a brand-new song by electro-pop duo Flood the Moon, as well as taking part in The Song Catchers—Breaksea’s exciting collaboration with West Australian Opera, to be performed at Albany Entertainment Centre this October.

SHOAL
CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT
SHOAL at Koondoola Primary School celebrates unity in diversity through collective creativity. The project fosters inclusion, cultural sharing and self-expression across art forms, encouraging students to discover and share their unique creative voices. Led by Breaksea artists Matt Reuben James Ward & Pia Harris, alongside Noongar singer and performer Jack Collard, the program will culminate in a student-led performance and exhibition celebrating shared stories and connection.

Across the first five weeks of term, Breaksea has already delivered six workshop days at Koondoola Primary School.
​
So far, workshops have focused on visual arts, exploring storytelling exercises and imaginative character design. It’s been a privilege to watch students grow in confidence as they begin to explore and express their own creative voices.
