More about the NEST

WATCH a film about the project below  made by Rob Castiglione featuring artist Jen Mitchell.

The Breaksea team will partner with  students from local schools, community and through the school holiday workshops to create a nest that represents how we construct our sense of home. Participants have the opportunity to add their own thoughts to this art installation by creating a poetry stick on which they each answer the question: “How do you find your sense of home?”

This project  is based on Breaksea’s collaborative community project A View From the Magpie’s Nest, undertaken between 2020 and 2021. It explores concepts of identity and belonging; as a magpie builds its nest from the found materials in its environment, so too do we construct our sense of who we are through the experiences, memories, objects we collect, and stories that we tell ourselves, both individually and collectively.

The Breaksea creative team are also inviting teachers and students to get involved be guided through an integrated arts-literacy program with Breaksea! Find out more on the NEST page
