Breathe was a research and development project exploring synergies between vocal improvisation and visual, aural and mental stimuli.

 

Breathe was led by Vocal Performance Initiative Director, Matt Ward in collaboration with dancer Melanie Makuch, filmmaker Jeffrey Makuch, sound files and creative writing exercises, four vocal works were improvised.

 

The project was devised to test the validity of improvised vocal work as a potential nucleus for future developed work. It was also designed to address processes for improvisation for opera singers, based on acting techniques.
