A cinematic community celebration launching Albany's bicentenary!

As part of the lead-up to the City of Albany's 2026 bicentenary, Breaksea in conjunction with Edify Media produced a series of 16 evocative short films designed to capture the spirit, diverse voices, and rich cultural heritage of the region. Serving as a visual prologue, the films wove together stunning landscapes with intimate local storytelling, exploring themes of connection to country and shared history.

These cinematic works premiered as the centrepiece of a transformed New Year's Eve celebration. To officially launch the bicentenary year, Breaksea took the helm of a spectacular mainstage family concert that brought together massed community choirs, professional musicians, and local youth performers in a joyous, high-energy celebration of Kinjarling.

Drawing thousands to the Albany waterfront, the live show was a triumph of community arts integration. The Breaksea Youth Ensemble and Community Choir took centre stage alongside celebrated West Australian artists, including Gina Williams, Maatakitj, Boox Kid, Bonnie Staude, and local indie band Flood the Moon, setting an inclusive and triumphant tone for the historic year ahead.
