The Magical Weedy Seadragon is an original, multi-award-winning Australian music theatre work born from extensive community-engaged playwriting. Over a multi-year development period, Breaksea’s professional artists collaborated directly with regionally isolated children across the Great Southern region. The children's stories directly shaped the narrative structure, themes, and tone of the final production.

The story follows a young child who has forgotten how to be kind, taking the audience on a magical, transformative adventure from the ocean to the shore. Packed with vibrant costumes, cute puppets, and an incredible original score, the show captivates younger audiences while delivering a poignant message.

The production embarked on an expansive regional tour across Western Australia throughout 2024, reaching thousands of audience members from Esperance to Port Hedland. Its innovative approach to participatory theatre earned it the WA Performing Arts Awards for Outstanding New Musical/Opera and Outstanding Costume Design.
